Khan Academy

Kahn Academy has been making videos for years.

I have used these videos many times as introductions to various lessons, or to help myself understand a concept before teaching it. Here is an example:

While the videos are a great tool, Khan has also made a tremendous website that is entirely customizable. While the customizable site does not perfectly fit into my “low tech” parameters, I wanted to give it a try to show low-tech self that I can do hard things. Low and behold, I think I love it.

Check out my screencast for a quick look around to see how you may be able to bring it into your own class.

Research shows that regularly practicing estimation strengthens students’ math sense.

Estimation also has the potential to add to a classroom culture where making mistakes and getting things wrong is part of learning. Check out the following video to introduce the topic in your classroom.

Steve Wyborney has created some wonderful resources and gives them away for free. What a champ!

You can find these resources here.

Here is my screencast of Steve Wyborney’s site.

Splat! is a fun tool to use as an entire lesson or used individually as a transition activity into math.

This tool was crated by Steve Wyborney and can be found here.

Check out this YouTube video of a teacher using it when her class was doing distance learning.
